PART ONE:
Of all the letters from A to Z
One is a perfect non-entity:
"W" is a double-"U", you see,
A compromised identity.
PART TWO:
Some of those who read these pages
May have erroneously surmised
That the focus of these rants and rages
(However humorously disguised)
Is the winner of a recent election,
Not some literary confection
That I have sneakily devised.
That, in fact, my "W" represents
The latest of our presidents.
Please be reassured,
Those of you who are offended,
What is true must be endured, but
No similarity is intended.
My "W" is a total fiction,
Perhaps resembling another who
has a similar affliction.
But in my depiction...
No similarity is intended.
My "W" is an aging frat boy,
A snap-a-wet-towel-on-the-prat-boy
Who didn't have to do a thing
To step on stage and play the king.
Not a thing...but
No similarity is intended.
My "W" is a charming man
Who'll slap your back, shake your hand,
Stand you to a glass of beer,
Tell a joke, bend your ear.
.All good cheer...but
No similarity is intended.
My "W" has an air of command
Sure of the ground on which he stands
But look closely, see the loser's eye?
Hear the barely audible despairing sigh?
A living lie...but
No similarity is intended.
My "W"'s parents loved him, but that said,
Early gave him up for dead.
See? In his face, the history,
Of estrangement from responsibility?
For all to see...but
No similarity is intended.
My "W" may not comprehenderate
What his associates representerate
That he is surrounded by
Wolves in wool with feral eye
Sleeked and sly... but
No similarity is intended.
It isn't the man that I lament
But the danger that he represents
It isn't weakness that I condemn
But weakness in high office -
Which is something else again.
And the weakness tantamount to sin:
Who deserves our censure more,
The beast that waits outside the door,
Or the one who lets it in?
But, again,
No similarity is intended,
No insincerity is defended,
No temerity commended,
And no charity to be extended.
